Don't be fooled by the small, compact design of the Mantis Tiller/Cultivator. Though it weighs a mere 24 pounds and has a width of only nine inches, the Mantis is powerful, thanks to its four-cycle, commercial-grade, 25-cc Honda gas engine. A reliable push-button primer will get you started, but the tines won't move until you squeeze the throttle. Once you've activated the throttle, the patented serpentine tines spin at up to 240 RPM to break through sod--even hard clay--tilling down to a depth of 10 inches. The Mantis Tiller/Cultivator makes it easy to maintain your garden. Simply reverse the tines to shallow-cultivate depths of up to three inches--it's much faster than using hand tools. | We are avid gardeners and creating beds the old-fashion way using a fork was back-breaking. This little tiller is the does the nice edging and the tilling!
In cold weather, the 4-cycle engine fires-up after a few pulls. When warm, a single pull is all that is required. It weighs about 20lbs and is easy to maneuver. The changing of times to the edger attachment takes less than a minute. The tines are super strong! We have very rocky soil and to my surprise, the tines have lasted this long! Tilling has never been so easy. Mantis has created a product that almost every gardener can use. We are more than satisfied with it! |

| I have owned several Mantis machines. I run them until they collapse after many years of service. This time I bought the 4 cycle. What a great machine. A relative also used it, and gave it the title of "freaking awesome". These do not replace huge tillers, but for the average garden, they are exceptional. The 4 cycle is much easier to use, as the gas mix is always a pain...If you are a gardener...buy one of these. |

| I already have a large roto-tiller that does a great job on large areas. But the Mantis is much more efficient around plants and in my raised beds. Easy starting ,and even at 69 yrs. old I have no problem carrying it up steps to my flower beds. |

| Finally, a tiller that has the power and is compact enough for the small gardener. This tiller even manages to till our moderately stony soil, although it can jump a bit it is easy to work. The Mantis is a quality product. We look forward to years of service from this investment. Easy instructions for use, easy assembly. |

| Overall, I love this tiller. Compared to the 2 cycle engine, it seems to be much quieter, and the emissions are less. (Direct comparison in the dealership, in addition to what I read). I have other 4 cycle machines that take regular gas, so the convenience of just adding gas is nice. If you have a lot of 2 cycle machines that all use the same oil/gas ratio, and you keep a can filled with that, than you will probably be happier with the 2 cycyle Mantis (it's significantly less $)
As far as its function, it turns over a 12x4 raised bed for the garden in a few minutes easily, much nicer than doing it by hand like I used too! I can get all my beds ready for spring planting in less than an hour. It is not powerful enough to till established sod or thick vegetation, so if you are looking to start a new bed, consider renting a BIG monster tiller for the task, or using the lasagna gardening technique. |
